COMMUNITY FRIDGE LAUNCH TEA-PARTY

Community fridge launch tea-party graphic with colourful flowers, fruit and veg, as well as a blue tea-pot and yellow cup.

We celebrated the launch of Derby’s first and only Community Fridge at Thrivemind Village!

On Saturday we enjoyed a wonderful day of community feasting, with a fabulous vegan banquet rustled up by volunteer cooks and Pop-up Community Chef Marie.

Our fridge had been pre-filled with gorgeous brightly coloured fruit and veg from our partners Martins Fruit & Veg for the event, which arrived as a generous donation from Roger from Unite The Community… and lots of people brought a donation of fruit or veg to put in the fridge!

Lea from Plot-to-Plate cut the ruby red ribbon to officially open the fridge! We enjoyed seed-swapping, planting seeds in DIY plant pots and Ay-Up! Bikes peeps were busy offering free bike servicing outside the front of TMV.

You can drop off good but unwanted food, and help yourself to what’s on the shelf.

Each year in the UK we throw away almost 15 million tonnes of food and drink. Nearly half of this is perfectly good to eat!

Our community fridge enables businesses and individuals to waste less through the sharing of good quality food that’s within it’s use-by date.

A community fridge brings people together to share food, meet up, learn new skills and prevent fresh food from going to waste. They’re open to all and anyone can share or take food, including local food businesses, producers, households, allotments and gardens. Fridges are run by community groups in shared spaces such as schools, community centres and shops. There are over 700 fridges across the UK (and counting).

At Thrivemind Village, we are delighted to have joined this fantastic nationwide initiative!
