WE BELIEVE IT TAKES A VILLAGE…

The Thrivemind Village started as an empty high street shop, stocked only with the imaginations of a growing volunteer collective who share a vision for a just and regenerative future for all.

From the minute we were given the keys our mission has been to help cultivate communities and movements that make change.

We believe it takes a village and our aim throughout the year has been to co-design & co-create Thrivemind Village with changemakers across the region who have shaped what’s to come.

With a splash of colour beaming from the city centre, our joyful, vibrant community space brings people together.

GROWING SEASON 2024! WE’RE BACK IN THE GARDEN!

Two Springs ago, Baby People offered their outdoor space to Thrivemind Village to transform into a garden - and it’s looking and feeling like a welcoming, joyful space for the young folks to sit in, and us to tend to together with the children.

There’s lovely mint, lemon balm, lavender, tulips, foxgloves, primroses, alliums and space for growing some veggies.

We planted some sunflowers and generally gave the garden some love, sipping on mint tea picked from the herby patch thanks to Lisa bringing along a flask of hot water and some cups!

We’re generously supported by Thrivemind Village partners; Woodgrow Horticulture, who have supplied us with trees and shrubs and flowers - Thank you so much!!!

We’ll be meeting there every two weeks, so get in touch if you’re up for a bit of gentle gardening.

WHAT DID WE DO FOR WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH?

At Thrivemind Village, (as an urban organisation largely made up of women) we’ve been diving into an exciting new project; FEMINIST CITY, re-imagining Derby through an intersectional feminist lens, questioning how our city could support a culture-shift in the ways we exist here when patriarchy is fossilised into the bricks and mortar that maps day-to-day life.

As part of the International Women’s Day weekend, TMV opened as a Third Space, with craftivist Zine-making, hot/cold drinks & vegan treats, kids space, baby-changing area, breastfeeding friendly everywhere and wheelchair ramps into and throughout the space. The book shop was open with a specially selected feminist section, but anyone could use the space without spending any money… “Just be, for free”.

Much of what we explored as a group in the lead up to the event, was an imaginative thought experiment; Questioning what we might see, feel and experience in a Feminist City, inspired by the book by Leslie Kern with the same title.

Asking this from our context as city-dwellers, meant that the exploration quickly became immersive and our answers transformed the TMV window display, speaking directly to the City, like truth to power and will remain exhibited there for now, so take a look if you’re passing!

So what might you see, how would you feel and what could you experience in a Feminist City?

VILLAGE VOLUNTEER CLAUDIA

"I find the Thrivemind Village project valuable because it gives me hope of a better future, of a legacy built by adults and children alongside. We are holding each others hands in times of desperate need for human connection. With hopes that we come to see a better, kinder, tomorrow for all."

VILLAGE VOLUNTEER LUCY

"In a society that seems to value profit above people, and willfully ignores the support and rest we need to flourish, Thrivemind offers an antidote to these unhelpful and outdated rhetorics. Being part of what they are doing makes me feel hopeful and excited for a future where we value community, and thrive together."
